The L'Epee clock is designed in aluminium to resemble a grenade, specifically the MKII. Although it may seem strange for a clock to be inspired by a weapon, its unique design is intended to challenge the significance of time and encourage people to enjoy the present moment. However, the clock's technical details should not be overlooked. The clock's aluminium structure houses the display and movement, with the time flashing on two black aluminium disks. The aluminium disks are powered by an in-house movement made of palladium-plated brass and stainless steel, lasting up to eight days without winding. To set the time, you must pull the pin at the top of the clock and wind its mainspring. Although not as explosive as an actual grenade, pulling the pin reminds users to live in the moment. On...

Reusable aluminium cups from War on Single-Use Plastic (WOSUP) will be tested at the Wallabies vs Argentina rugby union test match at Sydney's CommBank Stadium on July 15th. Instead of single-use plastic, 20,000 WOSUP cups will be used during the match, eliminating approximately 220kg of plastic waste and offsetting 60,000kg CO₂-e, which is equivalent to planting 95 trees through WOSUP's partnership with Greenfleet, Australia's first carbon offset provider. The aluminium cup initiator has a tree planting collaboration with Greenfleet, which offers a net carbon reduction of 3kg CO₂-e peruse. This trial is the first step in testing the feasibility of using and returning WOSUP's reusable aluminium cups by rugby fans. WOSUP aims to establish a long-term, sustainable partnership with Rugby...

Magna International Inc., a Canadian automotive parts manufacturer, and the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) have reportedly developed a manufacturing process that can reduce aluminium auto parts suppliers’ reliance on new aluminium. The new process, Shear Assisted Processing and Extrusion, enables manufacturers of aluminium parts to turn aluminium scrap and leftover trimmings into products suitable to automotive standards. Typically, in this process, recycled aluminium is added to newly mined aluminium to manufacture higher-quality auto parts. This is how the use of primary aluminium is reduced in the new process, helping companies cut carbon emissions by as much as 90 per cent. When asked what led to this invention, Aldo Van Gelder, general manager of...

Aluminium is a 100% recyclable and sustainable metal in the industry. It is well known to us that recycling aluminium emits 95% less energy than producing it from raw materials. Regarding linkages, aluminium and its applications in the aircraft sector have a long history. The links extend back to the nineteenth century when Count Ferdinand Zeppelin used aluminium to make frames for his 'airships'. Aeroplanes are typically recycled at roughly 25-30 years of age when replacement becomes necessary due to metal fatigue. For decades, journeys by aeroplane have been considered one of the quickest and most technologically advanced options. Millions and thousands of people use aircraft for their travel every day. And just like other transportation, even aircraft undergoes a life-ending process,...
