
The downstream aluminium market saw an eventful week from October 9 to 13, with Vietnam initiating its first anti-dumping sunset review on Chinese aluminium profiles, Novelis Europe ruling out Russian aluminium from the metal supply tender, Airbus renewing its supplying contract with AMAG, and so on and so forth.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam issued Notice No. 2537/QD-BCT on October 3, 2023, to commence implementing the first anti-dumping sunset review investigating aluminium profiles originating from the People's Republic of China. The specific Vietnamese tax codes associated with the products under investigation are 7604.10.10, 7604.10.90, 7604.21.90, 7604.29.10 and 7604.29.90.

At LME Week, Novelis Europe announced to rule out Russian aluminium from its metal supply tender 2024. It is when the industry people – consumers, producers, and traders come together to buy and sell aluminium for 2024. Novelis currently buys some aluminium from Rusal under contracts signed before the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Metra S.p.A., the Italy-based manufacturer of vertically-integrated complex extruded aluminium profiles, completed the acquisition of Extruded Aluminium Corp. (EAC), Michigan-based recycled-content aluminium producer, and its affiliated company Belding Machinery and Equipment Leasing LLC. Airbus, the world's largest manufacturer of airliners, renewed the aluminium rolled products supply contract with AMAG Austria Metall AG, which positioned the company to capitalise on escalating aircraft production rates and an expanded market presence. The European Union is gearing up to investigate excess capacity in China's steel industry, potentially leading to a 25 per cent tariff being imposed on imports from the second-largest global economy. Henan Mingtai Aluminium made a public announcement regarding its business performance for September. The sales figures for September indicated that 97,800 tonnes of aluminium sheets and foil were sold, along with 10,000 tonnes of aluminium profiles. In the first half of September, the sales volume for aluminium sheets and foil reached 915,800 tonnes, while the sales volume for aluminium profiles amounted to 10,400 tonnes.
