
From Russian Ambassador’s visit to Klil in Israel to the fair possibility of trade dispute resolve between the EU & US concerning aluminium tariffs, the global downstream aluminium market has witnessed a plethora of events this week from June 14 to June 18.

Russian ambassador Anatoly Viktorov recently visited the Klil factory in Karmiel, along with his wife and the mayor of Karmiel Moshe Koninsky. During the visit, Viktorov revealed that he was extremely impressed by Klil’s advanced technology of manufacturing aluminium windows.
Tzuri Daboosh, chairman of Klil, noted: “It is an honor to host the Russian ambassador at the plant, and the visit may open new collaborations in the field of aluminum.”
Arconic Corporation, a leading provider of aluminum sheet, plate and extrusions, as well as innovative architectural products, announced the release of its 2020 Sustainability and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report. The report stated total recordable incident rate was 0.95, down by 23% from 2019. It also highlighted that greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 13.8%, while energy consumption cut by 11.9%.

The trade disputes between the EU and US concerning tariffs on aluminium and steel will be resolved by the end of 2021 as agreed by both parties. The deal of Boeing and Airbus tariff to suspend for five years had been reached ahead to the meeting in Brussels, while an agreement on tariffs on exports of aluminium and steel remain too far this time around.
Both sides have also agreed to set up an EU-US High-Level Climate Action Group that is designed to strengthen the implementation of the Paris Climate accord.

Cansan Aluminium, based in Bursa, will receive a new, 40-MN, 10-in. front-loading extrusion press from Danieli Breda. The new press will allow the company to extrude more hard alloys, allowing it to broaden its automotive profile offerings. The commissioning of the press is scheduled for 2022.

Hindalco Industries Limited reduced aluminium products prices by INR 3,500 per tonne, with effect from Wednesday, June 16. The company’s aluminium billets and aluminium wire rods prices stood at INR 215,600 per tonne and INR 219,600 per tonne, respectively.
On Friday, June 18, Hindalco extended the price cut by INR 1,500 per tonne or 0.70 per cent, bringing its aluminium billets price at INR 214,100 per tonne and aluminium wire rod price at INR 218,100 per tonne.

Rio Tinto commenced operations at scandium oxide demonstration plant at its Rio Tinto Fer et Titane (RTFT) metallurgical complex in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. The plant is ramping up to production capacity of three tonnes of scandium oxide per year. The $6 million project will use an innovative process to extract high purity scandium oxide from the waste streams of titanium dioxide production, without the need for any additional mining.

Aluminium billet inventories in China built-up 12,400 tonnes or 14 per cent this week to come in at 100,700 tonnes. With aluminium prices still fluctuating at a high level, there has been a seasonal weakening of consumption, resulting in poor enthusiasm of receiving goods among the downstream aluminium sector.
