Dongria tribes vow not to leave Niyamgiri for mining
Water, land and forest are our own. No Government can mine in our hill. We have been praying our ancestral land and hill for decades and we are living here because of them. If Niyamgiri is allowed to mine, there will be conflict and bloodshed. We won’t allow bauxite to be transported from the hill,” said the native tribals.

Hundreds of Dongria Kondh reasserted their pledge not to leave the Niyamgiri hill while sacrificing hens and pigs before their deity Dharni Penu at a two-day festival held on February 22 and 23. A few tribes vowed before the God that they would not allow the hill to be mined till their last breath to the State Government and Vedanta.

The members of the Niyamgiri Suraksha Samiti also felicitated tribal leaders Lado Sikoka, Dadhi Pushika, Bari Pidika, Haribandhu Kadraka, Kumuti Majhi, Rajkishore Bag and Bhima Majhi on the occasion. Lingraj Azad of the Samajbadi Jana Parishad, Satya Mahar of the Niyamgiri Suraksha Samiti and writer Lenin Kumar were present.
