Coca Cola-KAB Recycling Bin Grant Program provides awards more recycling bins

The Coca Cola-Keep America Beautiful Recycling Bin Grant Program has awarded additional 5,300 recycling bins to promote convenient recycling among communities. The new bins allotted through the grant will serve communities in 41 states across the country.

The Bin Grant Program will provide 3,662 recycling bins to colleges and universities. Additionally, 1638 bins will be awarded to local governments and non-profit organizations. According to the Coca-Cola Foundation, 66% of the granted bins will be placed permanently in public places such as athletic fields, K-12 schools, fairs and festivals, special events and parks, aimed at increasing accessibility of recycling bins to general public. The remaining 44% of the bins will be places in college residence halls to boost recycling among student community.

The grant recipients were selected by Keep America Beautiful based on their capability to collect maximum number of cans and bottles. The relevant experience in the field of recycling and the chances of continuing the program in future were also taken into consideration. College and University Recycling Coalition (CURC) played a prominent role in reaching out to colleges and universities.

The Program has so far placed nearly 45,000 recycling bins, serving 560 communities across the nation, since its inception in 2007. It has successfully addressed lack of convenience by providing recycling bins at public gatherings and strategic locations. The Program also provides technical know-how and guidelines to organizations and grant winners in setting up effective recycling programs.
