China’s A00 aluminium ingot price records a 13-year high at RMB22,230/t; Aluminium alloy(A356) price soars by RMB500/t

The tight supply of primary aluminium in the Chinese domestic market due to increased pressure on smelters to rationalise their power usage, added with political unrest in Guinea impacting the global raw material supply, has pushed the country’s A00 aluminium ingot price to a 13-year high. According to the Shanghai Metals Market, China’s primary aluminium ingot price has soared by RMB 460 per tonne to reach as high as RMB 22,230 per tonne on Thursday, September 9. The average prices are expected to range between RMB 22,210 per tonne and RMB 22,250 per tonne, with spot contract to be traded at a premium price of RMB 70-30 per tonne.

Except for Tianjin and Linyi, the surge in A00 aluminium ingot price has touched upon all the other major cities. Chongqing has seen the sharpest growth of RMB 510 per tonne to RMB 22,260 per tonne, followed by the hike of RMB 465 per tonne in Wuxi and Hangzhou to stand at RMB 22,230 per tonne and RMB 22,235 per tonne, respectively. In Gongyi, Foshan, and Shenyang, primary aluminium ingot price has surged by RMB 450 per tonne, RMB 440 per tonne, and RMB 435 per tonne, respectively.

In Tianjin and Linyi, A00 aluminium ingot price has plunged by RMB 580 per tonne and RMB 550 per tonne to come in at RMB 21,180 per tonne and RMB 21,160 per tonne, respectively.

Aluminium alloy (A356) price has jumped by RMB 500 per tonne to close at RMB 23,350 per tonne, with average prices likely to range between RMB 23,300 per tonne and RMB 23,400 per tonne.

Aluminium alloys (A380) price and aluminium alloys (ADC12) price have increased by RMB 350 per tonne to peg at RMB 23,200 per tonne and RMB 22,000 per tonne, respectively.

The average alumina spot price has continued to rise by RMB 28 per tonne to stand at RMB 3,189 per tonne on September 9, found SMM. In Henan and Shanxi, alumina price has grown by RMB 25 per tonne to close at RMB 3,225 per tonne, while the price in Guangxi has settled at RMB 3,000 per tonne by also gaining RMB 25 per tonne.
