The State Mineral Resources Department of Chhattisgarh in India would approach mineral testing laboratories accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) for their services in analysing different elements of the bauxite ore in Chhattisgarh, senior officials informed. The Department would also embark upon detailed exploration of different bauxite mining blocks in Chhattisgarh.

The process of preparing Exploration Report and the Prefeasibility Report is currently underway.

Chhattisgarh is among 19 States in the country where the Geological Survey of India (GSI) has proposed to conduct aerogeophysical surveys to explore new mineral blocks. To start with, GSI will be first making an assessment of the bauxite deposits found in Damchun block of Balrampur district in the state.

Chhattisgarh had informed the Union Secretary, Mines earlier in June this year about 11 mines identified for e-auctioning during the remaining part of year 2017-18. These include four bauxite and seven limestone blocks in the state.

The State Mineral Resources Department officials informed that in FY2015-16, bauxite mining activities were being carried out in Pandariya Tahsil of Kabirdham and Murtunda of Surguja district in Chhattisgarh. In the meantime, bauxite prospecting was going on in Bodla Tehsil of Kabirdham district. There are plans to carry out bauxite mining activities in Bhursipakri and Mukam of the same Tehsil.

Both the projects were sanctioned during a meeting of the Coordination- Cum- Empowered Committee (CCEC) of the major mineral producing States in New Delhi last month. The meeting was chaired by the Union Secretary of Mines, Arun Kumar.
