Bauxite team formed in Bua for evacuation assistance
The bauxite mining company in Bua has set up a team to assist government officials with evacuation and clearing of roads when Tropical Cyclone Evan hits us this weekend.

Mine manager Basilio Vanuaca said work at the site had been shelved until TC Evan passes.

"The only people at the mine site are our emergency teams who will help nearby villagers and those in settlements in times of emergency during the cyclone.

"Right now it is all tools down at the work site because of the cyclone and our workers have gone to their homes to be with their families," Mr Vanuaca said.

"Our team will also clear and remove fallen trees from roads assisting government officials and simply providing easy access to road users."

Mr Vanuaca said the team would be based at the mine site.

"If the villagers need to be rushed to the hospital either to Lekutu Health Centre or Nabouwalu Hospital, our team will be available to take them on the company vehicle.

"Our team will also help with evacuation of nearby villagers when the need arises."
