Aluminum Association reports a YoY rise in North America’s aluminium product shipment in June 2016

The Aluminum Association’s Index of Net New Orders of aluminium Mill Products for June increased 7.4 per cent from the previous month. Orders for flat roll products were up 9.1 per cent, while orders for extruded products increased three-tenths of one per cent and orders for redraw rod were up 13.3 per cent. Compared to June 2015, orders were up 3.5 per cent. On average, orders recorded by domestic producers through the first half of 2016 were up 1.2 per cent over last year.
Shipments of can stock by domestic producers totaled 365.7 million pounds during June 2016, a rise of 1.3 per cent over the June 2015 total of 361.0 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments increased 4.5 per cent over the May 2016 total of 350.0 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through June 2016 totaled 2,103.2 million pounds, up 1.3 per cent over the 2015 year-to-date total of 2,077.0 million pounds. Compared to June 2015, producer shipments of can stock to U.S. markets rose 2.4 per cent to 315.8 million pounds, while exports were off 5.1 per cent to 49.8 million pounds.
Estimated net shipments of aluminium Sheet and Plate by U.S. and Canadian producers totaled 729.3 million pounds during June 2016, up slightly over the June 2015 total of 729.1 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments rose 3.7 per cent over the May 2016 revised total of 703.5 million pounds. Year-to-date shipments through June 2016 totaled 4,224.5 million pounds, up 1.3 per cent over the year-to-date 2015 total of 4,172.2 million pounds. Shipments of Can Stock totaled 365.7 million pounds during June 2016, a rise of 1.3 per cent over the June 2015 total of 361.0 million pounds, while shipments of Non-heat Treatable Sheet (excluding Can Stock) were down 4.4 per cent to 241.9 million pounds and shipments of All Other Sheet and Plate increased 5.6 per cent to 121.7 million pounds.

Estimated shipments of aluminium Foil by U.S. and Canadian producers totaled 86.0 million pounds during June 2016, a rise of 3.1 per cent over the June 2015 total of 83.4 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments increased 6.8 per cent over the May 2016 total of 80.5 million pounds.
Shipments of aluminium Powder and Paste to domestic markets by domestic producers, including imports by domestic producers, totaled 7.20 million pounds during June 2016, off 9.8 per cent from the June 2015 total of 7.99 million pounds. Compared to the previous month, shipments increased 16.7 per cent over the May 2016 total of 6.17 million pounds. Compared to June 2015, shipments of powder to domestic markets decreased 12.6 per cent to 6.19 million pounds, while shipments of paste were up 11.6 per cent to 1.02 million pounds.
