Canada’s recycled aluminium sector: Key initiatives since 2021
Canada is using a mix of federal funding, provincial recycling rules and private investment to build a stronger market for recycled aluminium. Over the past five years, policy changes and new projects have improved scrap collection, added remelting capacity and reinforced the country’s position as a low-carbon aluminium hub. Recycled aluminium requires up to 95 per cent less energy than primary metal and emits far less carbon dioxide. ADC12 prices rise for consecutive weeks, profit improvement and marginal demand recovery
This week, domestic aluminium scrap prices in China remained largely stable, with some slight increases. Although primary aluminium prices rose notably, aluminium scrap struggled to catch up, and the price difference between A00 aluminium and aluminium scrap stayed high. In terms of prices, as of September 3, SMM A00 aluminium prices closed at RMB 24,350 per tonne, up RMB 430 per tonne from last Thursday, while domestic aluminium scrap prices fluctuated only modestly overall, with increases significantly smaller than those of primary aluminium. India’s rapidly expanding secondary aluminium industry is facing a shortage of domestic scrap, leaving recyclers dependent on overseas suppliers and vulnerable to changing trade policies in major exporting regions. Secondary aluminium production has increased from approximately 0.85 million tonnes in 2015–16 to nearly 2.2 million tonnes in 2025–26, according to industry estimates cited by the Material Recycling Association of India.
