High efficiency aluminium grain refiner specialist MQP has appointed a new technical business development director.
Following the retirement of Richard Dean, Matthew Piper brings 15 years of experience in the industry to his new role, leading the global sales and technical development of Optifine high-efficiency grain refiners and casthouse solutions.
With expertise across master alloys, grain refiners, speciality alloys and powder metallurgy, Matthew began his career as a graduate trainee at London and Scandinavian Metallurgical Company, before moving on to hi-tech firm Metalysis as a senior scientist.
Before joining MQP, he was business development manager for P&B Metal Components, market leader in electromechanical precious metal contacts.
Rotherham-born and bred, Matthew – who graduated with a degree in physics from the University of Liverpool - said: “With more than 15 years in the aluminium industry, I’ve focused on turning technical challenges into practical results, helping casthouses improve quality, consistency and efficiency.
“I’m as comfortable on a plant floor as I am presenting new findings or working with customers on process improvements.

MQP chairman John Courtenay said, “Matthew has extensive experience in the industry, combining international sales leadership with hands-on metallurgical support and laboratory oversight.
“We look forward to working with him to improve casthouse efficiency, cut costs and deliver higher casting performance and sustainability gains.”
