
World primary aluminium production in the second quarter of 2023 ended June 30, amounted to 17.259 million tonnes, up by 1.8 per cent from 16.953 million tonnes in Q1 2023, found the International Aluminium Institute survey. On an annual basis, the output in 1Q2023 edged an increase of 1.06 per cent from 17.078 million tonnes.

In the entire first half of 2023, world primary aluminium output totalled 34.212 million tonnes – 1.81 per cent more than 33.605 million tonnes a year ago.
Meanwhile, the world’s primary aluminium production in June 2023 stood 3.11 per cent less M-o-M at 5.699 million tonnes compared to 5.882 million tonnes. However, on a year-on-year calculation, the output was found 0.85 per cent higher than 5.651 million tonnes.
In China, primary aluminium output during June 2023 was 3.377 million tonnes, bringing the total production in Q2 to 10.231 million tonnes. The quarterly output reflected a Q-o-Q rise of 2.12 per cent from 10.019 million tonnes and a Y-o-Y increase of 1.25 per cent from 10.105 million tonnes.
China’s total primary aluminium output during H1 2023 amounted to 20.250 per tonnes, up by 2.82 per cent from 19.695 million tonnes during the same period of the previous year.
In the Gulf region, primary aluminium production in June 2023 was 504,000 tonnes, with daily output of 16,800 tonnes. The monthly output edged a fall of 2.89 per cent from 519,000 tonnes in May but stood 1.20 per cent higher than 498,000 tonnes in June 2022.
In Q2 2023, GCC’s primary aluminium production amounted to 1.525 million tonnes, up by 0.99 per cent from 1.510 million tonnes in Q1 and 0.73 per cent more than 1.514 million tonnes in Q2 2022.
In Asia (ex-China), primary aluminium production during June 2023 was 385,000 tonnes, which brought the region’s total output to 1.167 million tonnes in Q2 2023. In H1 2023, Asia (ex-China)’s primary aluminium production totalled 2.314 million tonnes, reflecting a rise of 1.80 per cent from 2.273 million tonnes a year earlier.
World’s primary aluminium daily average production in June 2023 was recorded at 190,000 tonnes versus 189,700 tonnes in May 2023 and 188,400 tonnes in June 2022.
