
According to the US Census Bureau data, the United States imported 194,000 tonnes of aluminium crude metals and alloys from Canada in January 2022. That was a decrease of 2,000 tonnes or 1.02 per cent from 196,000 tonnes in December 2021. As per the data shown, the monthly decline in China’s aluminium crude metals and alloys imports extended for the second month in a row, albeit slower in January, because the imports in December recorded a plunge of 39,000 tonnes or 16.6 per cent from 235,000 tonnes.

However, on a year-on-year calculation, the United States aluminium crude metals and alloys imports in January 2022 registered a hike of 28,000 tonnes or 16.87 per cent from 166,000 tonnes.
In the entire year of 2021, the crude metals and alloys imports by the United States from Canada totalled 2.53 million tonnes, showed USGS data.
After Canada, the United Arab Emirates was the second-leading exporter of aluminium crude metals and alloys to the US, supplying 31,600 tonnes in January 2022, which also represented a month-on-month fall of 5,300 tonnes or 14.36 per cent from 36,900 tonnes. But unlike the imports from Canada, the United States’ aluminium crude metals and alloys imports from the UAE in December 2021 saw a rise of 13.19 per cent M-o-M from 32,600 tonnes.
The imports from the UAE increased on a year-on-year basis by 54.15 per cent from 20,500 tonnes.
Nonetheless, in the meanwhile, the United States’ total aluminium crude metals and alloys imports in January 2022 recorded a month-on-month rise of 8.54 per cent from 316,000 tonnes to 343,000 tonnes. On a year-on-year basis, the imports surged by 37.2 per cent from 250,000 tonnes.
