According to the US Geological Survey, the United States exported 40,900 tonnes of aluminium scrap to India in June 2022, bringing the total amount of exports in the second quarter to 112,700 tonnes. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the scrap exports from the US to India in Q2 stood 242.66 per cent higher than 32,890 tonnes.
The monthly exports increased each month in the second quarter, starting with a hike of 23,410 tonnes in April to 33,400 tonnes. In May, the exports grew by 5,000 tonnes or 13 per cent to 38,400 tonnes, followed by the increase of 2,500 tonnes in June.
On a year-on-year calculation, the US aluminium scrap exports to India in June 2022 edged 36.65 per cent higher than 28,100 tonnes.
In the first half of 2022, the US aluminium scrap exports to India amounted to 227,000 tonnes, up by 34.32 per cent from 169,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
Despite the rise in the United States’ aluminium scrap exports to India in June 2022, the former’s total scrap exports across the world stood down month-on-month by 15,000 tonnes or 8.38 per cent from 179,000 tonnes to 164,000 tonnes. But on a year-on-year basis, the June exports reflected an increase of 7,000 tonnes M-o-M from 157,000 tonnes.
