TWO more districts in the province of Bua have been identified for bauxite mining
TWO more districts in the province of Bua have been identified for bauxite mining, says Commissioner Northern Lieutenant Colonel Ilai Moceica.

He said the districts of Nasarawaqa and Wainunu have been marked for mining operations.

"Nawailevu bauxite mining has a lease of 22 years with three years for mining activities and 17 years for rehabilitation work," Lt-Col Moceica said.

"We are also looking at Nasarawaqa and Wainunu districts for bauxite mining."

While he agreed that mining would help develop the province, Lt-Col Moceica did not provide further details of the proposed new sites.

He added that the situation surrounding Mt Kasi goldmine in Cakaudrove looked positive.

"We are doing all we can to get these developments started because they will generate economic activities, especially for the rural areas of Bua and Cakaudrove.

"When the mining companies bring in employees to work, the villagers will have the opportunity to sell root crops and other food items, so this is one way for the villagers to earn money."

The Nawailevu bauxite mine has already stockpiled bauxite for China, however, it's not clear when the first shipment will leave Bua's shores because the jetty is incomplete.
