
The US imported 270,000 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in August in 2020, a jump of 266% from 73,800 tonnes in August 2019. On a month-on-month comparison, imports rose by 7% from 253,000 tonnes in July, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from US Geological Survey.

In the first eight months of 2020, the US imports of crude metal and alloy stood at 2.350 million tonnes, from 1.98 million tonnes in the first eight months of 2019. This marked an increase of 19% or 370,000 tonnes year-on-year.
On the export side, the US exported 14,800 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in August 2020, from 19,200 tonnes exported in August 2019, a decrease of 23% year-on-year. On a month-on-month basis, the exports inched up 1.37% from 14,600 tonnes.
Crude metal and alloys exports came in at 120,000 tonnes in January-August 2020. That was down 25% year-on-year. The US had exported 161,000 tonnes in January-August 2019.
