
The US imports of crude metal and alloys stood at 313,000 tonnes in May 2021, from 316,000 tonnes in May 2020, a drop 0.95% year-on-year, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from the US Geological Survey. Imports reduced by 3.4% from April’s 2021’s imports of 324,000 tonnes.

The US imported 1.44 million tonnes of crude metal and alloys in the first five months of 2021, as compared to 1.57 million tonnes in the first five months of 2020. This marked a decrease of 8.28%.
On the export side, the US exported 16,100 tonnes of crude metal and alloys in May 2021. Crude metals exports were 9,060 tonnes exported in May 2020, a growth of 77.7% year-on-year. On a month-on-month basis, the exports dropped 9% from 17,700 tonnes.
In the first five months of 2021, crude metal and alloys exports came in at 84,300 tonnes, indicating a hike of 12.55% year-on-year. The US had exported 74,900 tonnes in the first five months of 2020.
