The US aluminium semi-finished imports fall 2% MoM in August, marking a fifth straight month of decline

The US imports of aluminium semi-finished products (plates, sheets, bars, etc.) stood at 115,000 tonnes in August, a decrease of 1.71% from 117,000 tonnes in July. Semi-finished imports declined for a fifth straight month in August. Imports fell by 12.21% or 16,000 tonnes from June’s imports of 131,000 tonnes,14.81% or 20,000 tonnes from May’s imports of 135,000 tonnes and 19.58% or 28,000 tonnes from April's imports of 143,000 tonnes.

Imports of aluminium semi-finished products totalled 1 million tonnes in the first eight months of 2019, as updated by the US Census Bureau.

The US imported 235,000 tonnes of total aluminium including scrap in August, a decrease of 9.62% from 260,000 tonnes imported in July. Import was down by 53% or 265,000 tonnes from June and 50.84% or 243,000 tonnes from May. The US had imported 500,000 tonnes in June and 478,000 tonnes in May. Total aluminium imports amounted to 3.43 million tonnes in January-August.

Total crude metal and alloys and scrap imports stood at 73,800 tonnes and 45,300 tonnes in August, down 19.08% and 12.72% month-on-month. The US imported 1.98 million tonnes and 411,000 tonnes of crude metal and alloys and scrap in January-August.
