The city of Binzhou in Shandong province, east China, has stepped further to provide support to the high-end aluminium industry by developing five new projects, Reuters report. According to a local government document, Shandong province, home to top aluminum producer China Hongqiao Group, has already initiated the plan.

One of the projects includes building an aluminium alloy plant with production capacity of 10,000 tonne-per-year (tpy) by Huachuang Metal, according to the document dated Aug. 30 on the Binzhou city government website.
A second aluminium alloy project, to be built by Hangqiao Technology, will target the automotive and aerospace industries and a third project, to be built by Yangxin Taihe New Material, will make aluminium formwork used in construction. The production capacities of these projects are, however, not revealed yet.
The document calls for public feedback on the plans to be submitted by September 5, 2018.
These moves towards developing high-aluminium industry come amid increased competition in the aluminium sector from other parts of China, where new smelters are taking the country’s output to record levels.
Another project in Binzhou is to erect a plant that will produce 1.88 million tonnes per year of carbon materials for the aluminium sector, according to the government document.
The southern region of Guangxi also unveiled its plan last month to establish its own high-end aluminium production base in Nanning. Guangxi is otherwise known for an abundance of aluminium raw material alumina.
