South-West bauxite mine bid gets thumbs down
A West Australia mining warden has recommended that a proposal to explore for bauxite south of Bridgetown, in the state's South-West, be rejected.

Perth-based Bauxite Resources, which has been granted exploration licenses over 59 tenements in the South-West, said today its application for three additional exploration licences south of Bridgetown did not get a mining warden's backing.

The warden recommended to WA Minister for Mines and Petroleum Norman Moore that the applications be refused.

But if the minister was minded to grant the licences, the warden recommended that he refer them to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

Meanwhile, the company's chief executive and executive director, Scott Donaldson, has announced he will step down from the dual roles by the end of year in order to pursue other business interests.
