SML launches new extrusion lamination line

In recent years, the flexible packaging market has demonstrated continuous growth. The demand for new packaging materials is on the rise due to pressure for longer product shelf lifes, a smaller CO2 footprint, reduced packaging weights, better optics, etc…

Extrusion lamination is increasingly competing with traditional adhesive laminating processes in the flexible packaging industry and offers major advantages. The fact that extrusion lamination is solvent-free, no additional curing time is required before the laminate passes to the next downstream process.

To precisely meet market needs, SML has introduced the new Flexpack 1500, an extrusion laminating line which sets new benchmarks for its compact design.

The line is designed for product widths from 700 to 1350mm, and offers a high flexibility in product combinations. Two automatic turret unwinds are able to handle a wide range of substrates such as paper, films, aluminium foil, nonwovens and others. With an optionally available third double unwind also enforcement grids can be added to the structure. The extrusion unit consists of 2 extruders, a coextrusion feedblock and a flat-die with internal deckling system, all mounted together on a 3-axis adjustable carriage.

Highly efficient extruders with water-cooled motors guarantee a minimum of energy consumption and high output at best melt quality. Together with a maximum line speed of 320m/min and an optimised layout in terms of least floor space, the Flexpack 1500 is a very efficient solution with the best productivity for the customer.
