Primetals wins 23-package order from China’s Dingsheng for aluminium foil expansion
London-based Primetals Technologies has won a new order from the Chinese aluminium flat-rolled products (FRPs) and processing items manufacturer Jiangsu Dingsheng New Materials, to supply 23 equipment packages for its aluminium foil mill expansion projects in China. Signed in August 2026, the contract covers Air Bearing ShapeMeters (ABSM), ISV-Electric and ISV-Electric Compact spray bars, and VPT3 position transducers for several locations. The technologies are designed to strengthen strip shape control and process performance, reinforcing Dingsheng’s efforts to expand aluminium foil capacity while maintaining consistent product quality and efficient mill operation. Nespresso puts aluminium at the centre of capsule strategy, ends paper-based collection
Nespresso will shift its focus to its aluminium range from paper-based capsules, following customer feedback on shelf life and the overall product experience. The Nestlé subsidiary said the paper capsules were introduced as a pilot project to give customers another option. The company said its experience showed that aluminium provides better protection for freshly roasted coffee. South Korea’s aluminium foil imports hit five-year high at 57kt in YTD July 2026 as China drives 96% of new volume
South Korea’s aluminium foil market has entered a stronger phase in 2026, with imports reaching their highest level in five years. But the trade data points to a more specific shift beneath the headline growth: most of the additional aluminium foil entering South Korea is coming from China. South Korea imported 57,261.18 tonnes of aluminium foil from the world in YTD July 2026, up 23.94 per cent from 46,201.68 tonnes in YTD July 2025. Imports stood at 50,840.22 tonnes in YTD 2022, 43,145.18 tonnes in YTD 2023 and 47,238.94 tonnes in YTD 2024, before slipping to 46,201.68 tonnes in 2025, as per ITA. Germany’s aluminium flat-rolled products (FRP) market is revealing a striking disconnect between its shrinking primary aluminium base and its still substantial downstream manufacturing capacity. Estimated German FRP consumption reached 1.68 million tonnes in 2025, up from approximately 1.66 million tonnes in 2024, even as domestic primary aluminium production had fallen sharply in previous years. The latest trade data add another layer to the picture. Germany’s combined imports of aluminium plates, sheets and strip above 0.2 mm (CN 7606) and aluminium foil of 0.2 mm or less (CN 7607) reached approximately USD 5.04 billion in 2025, while exports climbed to USD 8.18 billion. India proposes 5-year extension of aluminium foil duties with rates up to $977/t
India may continue imposing anti-dumping duties on aluminium foil from China, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia for another five years, following a recommendation from the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR). The proposed duties on aluminium foil of 80 microns and below range from USD 93 to USD 977 per tonne, depending on the country and exporter. The final decision on the recommendation will be taken by the Finance Ministry. The DGTR said extending the duties was necessary after reviewing submissions from interested parties as part of a sunset review investigation. German aluminium foil exports fall 2.8% in H1 2026 despite higher volume supplied to France: How will H2 unfold?
Germany’s aluminium foil export market is showing a shift after two years of steady recovery. The upward trend that had returned after the 2023 downturn failed to hold, with shipments slipping again even as some markets continued to show resilience in H1 2026. The change becomes clearer when the recent history is put together. Germany exported 151,000 tonnes in H1 2022, but the volume dropped to 138,000 tonnes in H1 2023, down 8.6 per cent. Exports then began to recover, reaching 141,000 tonnes in H1 2024, up 2.2 per cent, and 144,000 tonnes in H1 2025, an increase of 2.1 per cent, according to ITC data.
