SINOMACH secures $245m EPC contract for the Angola aluminium project

China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH) has increased its presence in the African aluminium industry by signing an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for USD 245 million for Phase II of the Huatong Electrolytic Aluminium Production Line project in Angola. The EPC Contract for USD 245 million was signed by SINOMACH International Engineering (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd.

The signed accord at the 17th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Summit Forum and Exhibition dated June 11, 2026, aims at increasing the output of the aluminium plant from the present volume by adding 120,000 tonnes through the electrolysis process.

The agreement entails the design, procurement of materials, installation, and operational readiness by SINOMACH International Jiangsu, cementing its position in executing mega projects.

Huatong Aluminium Industrial Park Project is a Five-Stage Plan. The Huatong Wire and Cables Group and the Huatong Aluminum Industrial Park Project are being developed simultaneously.

Phase 1 of the Project, located at Jiangmen City, Activation of Transactions in Angola, commenced operations on January 19, 2026, under the administration of João Lourenço, President of Angola, and is expected to produce 120,000 tonnes of aluminium and provide jobs for approximately 1,200 employees.

Strategically, this investment is multi-dimensional. Angola is seeking foreign investment, especially due to its growing interest in diversifying its economy and reducing reliance on crude oil exports. This aluminium smelter, located in the Barra do Dande Free Trade Zone, Bengo province, may help improve the country’s competitiveness in international markets by developing metal processing in addition to industrial production.

The project also represents China’s growing engagement through infrastructure on the continent. In view of this industrial park spanning ten years, with an estimated investment of USD 1.6 billion, it can be anticipated that Angola will emerge as a leading producer of aluminium in the sub-Saharan region.
