The global leader in the production of low carbon aluminium, Rusal declared that its aluminium-scandium alloy has been included in the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

An amendment issued by the classification society of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping regarding the Rules for the classification and Construction of Sea-Going Ships, Rules for Technical Supervision for construction of ships and also for Manufacture of Materials and Products for ships. With the inclusion of changes mentioned above, RUSAL developed aluminium-scandium alloy (Al-Mg-Sc) will now find placed under the relevant section of rules and also under the requirements for welded joints.
The properties of the semi-finished products obtained from the new alloy will help in minimizing the impact on the environment as it will reduce the weight of the ship parts and will also consume less fuel.
According to Viktor Mann, the Technical Director of RUSAL, “The addition of RUSAL's new alloy to the Maritime Register allows engineers to use semi-finished products at the design stage. This is important for such a dynamic and developing industry of shipbuilding in Russia and globally.”
The newly floated brand of aluminium-scandium solutions called ScAlution will help in reducing vehicle weights, consumption of fuel, and emission into the atmosphere. ScAlution was launched by RUSAL in April and have been in demand across all the aluminium sectors.
