Recycling authority Ranjit Baxi to publish books on recycling

To be available in June, the book is about 'the forces and drivers that impact upon the recycling business - it is about the practicalities', notes its publisher. It also 'provides some interesting or shocking facts and figures': in 2004, for instance, 55 billion aluminium cans were buried in landfill, littered or incinerated, which was 9 billion more than in the year 2000.
The book also notes that recycling 1 tonne of paper saves 24 to 31 trees, 4000 kWh of energy, 270 litres of oil, 26 000 litres of water and 3.5 cubic metres of landfill space.
The book contains contributions from experts around the globe and the author reveals how waste has a value and how it is traded on the financial markets. He suggests that waste should be treated as a good investment rather than as a problem to be shunned.
