On December 15, 2022, the luxury automotive giant Mercedes-Benz and global leader in low-carbon aluminium production, Norsk Hydro, announced that later will supply the German automaker with low-carbon aluminium for a range of models from 2023, including its electric EQ models, as the luxury carmaker plans to decarbonise its supply chain.

Pondy Oxides and Chemicals Limited has accomplished the installation of plant and machinery for the aluminium recycling/melting facility at its existing premises in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, India and gained the required regulatory approvals and thereby inaugurated its commercial production on December 14 2022.

On Friday, December 16, Aluminium Stewardship Initiative announced that REAL Alloy has successfully been certified with the ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) and Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard V1 (2017) for its wrought alloy and cast alloy factories located in Coldwater North Michigan and for recovering aluminium scrap at its Coldwater South plant (USA). According to a report published by Metal Packaging Europe and European Aluminium, the recycling rate of aluminium beverage cans in the European Union, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland stood robust at 73 per cent in 2020. The total volume of aluminium recycled from cans was 510,000 tonnes in the said year, reflecting an increase of more than 20,000 tonnes since the previous year. As a result, a total Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions saving was 4.2 million tonnes of CO₂eq.
Birmingham’s Aston University has collaborated with Midland-headquartered cast house technology experts via a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) to plan new energy-saving ways of recycling aluminium, which might save almost 50 per cent of the total consumption demanded by the process.
