On Friday, December 16, Aluminium Stewardship Initiative announced that Real Alloy has successfully been certified with the ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) and Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard V1 (2017) for its wrought alloy and cast alloy factories located in Coldwater North Michigan and for recovering aluminium scrap at its Coldwater South plant (USA). REAL Alloy's global corporate headquarters in Ohio (USA) has also received a dual ASI Certification for its central, strategic, and administrative management duties.
Molten aluminium, deox cones, and specification alloy sows are the main products of the recycling plant, whilst a large variety of specification alloys for use in the car industry are produced in the casting facility. As well as core strategic, administrative, and service operations administered by REAL Alloy Europe Headquarters in Grevenbroich, the firm attained ASI Performance Standard Certification and Chain of Custody Certification in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
"We congratulate REAL ALLOY on achieving dual ASI Certification for its Global HQ in Ohio, and recycling and casting facilities at Coldwater, Michigan. One of ASI's goals is to effect positive change in the performance of entities involved along the aluminium value chain, including increased transparency. As part of seeking ASI Certification, REAL ALLOY North America published their first sustainability report to meet disclosure requirements of the ASI Performance Standard and share data and information on relevant ESG issues with stakeholders. Coupled with CoC Certification, REAL ALLOY's North American business unit are supporting responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium," said Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI.
ERM Certification and Verification Services conducted an impartial, unbiased audit of the REAL ALLOY activities and corporate offices. The ASI Certification programme, the first complete voluntary sustainability standard project for the aluminium value chain, was established through an extensive multi-stakeholder engagement process.
