Recommendation of bauxite license rejection in SW has environmental significance

The State Government is deciding whether to grant three licences for bauxite exploration to Bauxite Resources Limited, after the Warden recommended it either refuse the licences or refer them to the Environmental Protection Authority.
The company wants the licences so it can search for bauxite in state forest and farming land between Manjimup and Bridgetown.
Greens Member Giz Watson says the ruling is indicative of the environmental damage that can be caused by bauxite mining.
"It's an historic recommendation for the Mining Warden and hugely significant for the future of bauxite mining in the state," she said.
"But also hugely significant for this ruling recognising bauxite causes significant environmental damage."
