An ambitious plan has been shared by the Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) concerning the production at its Kodingamali Mines, where it is planning to expand the capacity from the current 3.6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 6 MTPA. This indicates the firm's strong and sustainable demand within the industry.

The bauxite mine in Kodingamali is said to be driving both industrial growth and socio-economic progress in southern Odisha over the last eight years. The mine, which spreads across the districts of Koraput and Rayagada, has been providing bauxite to the local industries, creating a significant impact on Odisha’s mineral-based economy.
Why do the residents support the expansion? They shared that with the support of this mining project, they have been getting better access to education, job opportunities, the healthcare system, road connections in areas which once lacked them, and better drinking water. Moreover, they have added that the project created both direct and indirect job opportunities, which leads to better living conditions throughout the tribal-dominated region.
