No guarantee for bauxite mine: Queensland Government

ABC News reports QLD Natural Resources and Mines Minister Andrew Cripps said mining companies would still face strict regulations after Wild Rivers was changed.
But he said bureaucracy would no longer be a major obstacle for mining companies.
"I think the key difference between the way that these projects will be considered by the LNP and the way that they were considered under the former government is that politics won't be getting in the road," he said.
Wilderness Society spokesperson Gavan McFadzean told ABC News the repeal of Wild Rivers was the realisation of the organisation's "worst fears".
He said without the legislation the environmentally sensitive region around the Cape York Peninsula wouldn't be protected from mining.
The Government said consultation with mining companies, traditional owners, landholders, and environmental groups would happen before any changes were made to the Wild Rivers legislation.
Cape Alumina has proposed bauxite mining in northern QLD but said previously its project was "on hold" while current regulations were under review.
The company says it's made "some of the most extensive environmental impact studies ever undertaken" around Cape York and is confident it can operate without damaging the ecosystem.
