
As confirmed by a release from National Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco), the company has posted 16.8 per cent growth in its bauxite production in the April-February period of FY 2016-17, to reach a production volume of 6.56 million tonnes.

This is the highest ever bauxite production record for Nalco since its inception. For the same period, the hydrate production at its Damanjodi refinery has also registered an increase of 6.8 per cent to 1.89 million tonnes from 1.77 million tonnes in the same period of 2015.
In tandem with bauxite production, cast metal production grew by 3.79 per cent and the aluminium metal sales grew by 2.68 per cent at its Angul aluminium smelter. With the aluminium market strengthening up with the steadily growing LME aluminium price, the PSU is planning to increase its cast metal production by 12 per cent in FY 2017-18.

"With the aluminium market firming up, the Navaratna PSU foresees sunny days ahead and plans to increase cast metal production by 12 per cent in the next fiscal," Nalco said.
