Metro Mining Limited, in its monthly performance report, revealed that its bauxite shipments at Bauxite Hills Mine during October came in at 504,000 wet metric tonnes (WMT), marking the strongest monthly performance since operations began in April last year. Compared with 497,000 tonnes in September, the shipments in October stood higher by 1.4 per cent.

Good weather conditions and seasonal high tides with loading rates maintained above 16,000 tonnes per day could be the primary reason for this robust level of shipments last month.
The mining volume in October came in at 479,000 tonnes, which was, however, down by 4 per cent from 501,000 tonnes in September. The mining per day stood at 15,452 tonnes, again down by 7.4 per cent from 16,696 tonnes month-on-month.
Up until October 31, the company’s bauxite mining stood at 2.779 million WMT, whereas shipments came in at 2.756 million WMT.
Nonetheless, Managing Director and CEO Simon Finnis is of opinion, “the mining and shipping results are now consistently performing at or above our budget requirements; reflecting enhanced operational knowledge and experience.”
“I anticipate a strong finish to the 2019 operating season and Bauxite Hills remains on track to meet the production and shipping guidance of 3.3-3.5 million WMT,” he said.
