At the conclusion of his China tour, Mahmoud Esmat, Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, disclosed prospects of deepening cooperation and localising the manufacture of electrical equipment in Egypt. Discussions with Chinese companies focused on setting up production lines for high-voltage cable terminations, gas-insulated cable technologies using aluminium alloy conductors, solar power plants and raw material mining using advanced technologies.
The Minister met with the Chairman of the Ankora Group, Chen Xiaoling, the company specialising in smart electrical equipment, cable terminations, and transmission lines involving aluminium alloy, General Manager of Jutiang Group for solar energy solutions, Engineer Cao and Chairman of Hongji Group for Mining Services and Equipment, Engineer Bai Yang.
He discussed investment plans with Ankora Group officials for setting up production lines in Egypt. Ankora has expertise in high- and extra-high-voltage equipment, like cable terminations up to 750 kV and hybrid gas-insulated transmission lines. These lines replace traditional cables and overheads, cutting costs, extending lifespan, handling up to 8,000 amperes, and boosting fire/melting safety. They use aluminium alloy conductors in gas-insulated setups, reducing losses by over 60 per cent.
Jutiang Group and Esmat discussed collaboration possibilities for solar power plant establishment. Esmat observed that Egypt owns broad domestic and regional markets across its geographic circumference. They are supported by electrical interconnection projects and power trade agreements with neighbouring countries.
During his meeting with Hongji Group, Esmat discussed the company’s activities in raw material mining and the technologies it employs in processing kaolin ore for the production of paper industry inputs, ceramics, various coating products and other applications.
The Minister noted that the initiative aligns with Egypt's strategy to support domestic industry, enhance the electricity grid, as well as transfer advanced technologies. He highlighted Egypt’s large domestic and regional markets supported by electricity, regulatory support for locally manufactured products, and recent energy-sector achievements. These would place the nation as a regional hub focused on electrical equipment manufacturing.
