

Apple Inc. recently introduced MacBook Neo, a laptop developed to provide the Mac computing experience at a comparatively lower price. Through this release, the company seeks to extend its hardware and software ecosystem to a wider group of users around the world. The starting price is INR 69,900 (USD 760), while students can purchase it for INR 59,900 (USD 651), making it the least expensive Mac laptop offered by Apple. Pre-orders opened after the announcement, and the device will become available on March 11.

The laptop runs on macOS Tahoe, which includes several built-in applications and supports integration with the Apple iPhone. The operating system also allows access to Apple Intelligence features and supports many third-party applications, enabling users to work across multiple platforms within the Apple ecosystem.
In terms of design, MacBook Neo has an aluminium body and is offered in four colours: blush, indigo, silver, and citrus. It features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with high resolution, strong brightness, and support for one billion colours, producing clear text and detailed images. An anti-reflective layer has been added to improve visibility when the device is used under different lighting conditions.

The laptop is powered by the Apple A18 Pro chip, which supports common computing tasks such as browsing, streaming media, and editing documents. According to Apple, the system can perform activities like web browsing up to 50 per cent faster than computers using the Intel Core Ultra 5 processor. It can also handle certain on-device artificial-intelligence processes up to three times faster, including some advanced photo-editing operations.
For connectivity, the device provides two USB-C ports that can be used for accessories, external displays, or charging. A headphone jack is included for wired audio. Wireless connections are supported through Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6.

Apple states that MacBook Neo can operate for up to 16 hours on a single charge. The laptop also contains a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones designed to improve voice clarity during calls, and side-firing speakers with Spatial Audio support. User interaction is supported through Apple’s Magic Keyboard and a large Multi-Touch trackpad, which allows gesture-based navigation and precise cursor movement.
The MacBook Neo is designed as Apple’s lowest-carbon MacBook and supports the company’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its entire operations by 2030. The device contains 60 per cent recycled materials, the highest proportion used in any Apple product so far. This includes 90 per cent recycled aluminium in the body and 100 per cent recycled cobalt in the battery.

The enclosure is produced using a material-efficient forming process that requires 50 per cent less aluminium than conventional machining methods. In addition, 45 per cent of the electricity used in its supply chain comes from renewable sources, including wind and solar power. The product also meets Apple’s standards for energy efficiency and safe chemical use, and its fibre-based packaging is fully recyclable.
