LME aluminium price drops by nearly 2% across cash and contracts on August 12

The London Metal Exchange (LME) aluminium price chart reported major declines of nearly 2 per cent across the pricing and contract segments on the August 12 close after an improvement was noticed on the August 11 session.

The LME aluminium cash bid eased 1.93 per cent day-on-day on August 12, down from USD 3,372 per tonne to USD 3,307 per tonne. The offer shifted from  USD 3,373 per tonne to USD 3,307.5 per tonne, representing a difference of 1.94 per cent.

On August 12, the LME aluminium three-month bid price slipped from USD 3,373 per tonne on August 11 to USD 3,308 per tonne, marking a similar 1.93 per cent drop. The offer price recorded a slight decline of 1.94 per cent, moving from USD 3,374 per tonne to USD 3,308.5 per tonne.

The declining trend persisted in the longer-dated contracts, with both the December 27 bid and offer prices reporting a 1.32 per cent drop over the previous session. The bid closed at USD 3,217 per tonne, cooling from USD 3,260 per tonne, and the offer softened to USD 3,222 per tonne from USD 3,265 per tonne.

The LME aluminium 3-month Asian Reference Price closed at USD 3,310.5 per tonne on August 12.

on the inventory front, LME aluminium stocks recorded a further decline as of August 12. The opening stocks stood at 253,400 tonnes, easing from 254,900 tonnes by 0.59 per cent.

In contrast, live Warrants amounted to 244,575 tonnes from 244,550 tonnes, representing a modest gain of 0.01 per cent.

Again, cancelled warrants dipped to 7,125 tonnes, contracting 19.49 per cent from 8,850 tonnes.

LME alumina Platts remained closed at USD 344.11 per tonne on August 12.
