The Harare City Council (HCC), the local governing body of the capital of Zimbabwe, has warned that water production may soon stop due to a lack of aluminium sulphate. According to a statement from the local government authority, all areas of the city would be impacted. Aluminium sulphate is primarily used as a coagulant in the purification of drinking water, the treatment of sewage, and the production of paper.

The City informed that water production has been decreased to stretch precious inventories from 20 hours of operation to 30 hours as of yesterday evening due to dangerously low stockpiles of aluminium sulphate. A quicker alternative delivery is being sought to shorten the outage.
This indicates that the city will run out of goods and stop production at midnight this evening. The sole anticipated arrival date for granular aluminium in the nation is Monday, February 13, 2023.
Since just one pump is now providing service to Warren Control and another to Lonchinvar, the city's supply level is almost non-existent, and all areas will be impacted. Our source of liquid aluminium sulphate experienced a manufacturing plant malfunction, which they intend to fix by Saturday morning and restart delivery later that day.
