
India’s aluminium scrap imports from the United States stood at 28,100 tonnes in June 2021, reflecting a downfall of 1,500 tonnes or 5.07 per cent from 29,600 tonnes in May, found the latest data from the US Census Bureau. However, on a year-on-year basis, the imports stood 119.53 per cent higher than 12,800 tonnes.

In the second quarter of 2021 ended June 30, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US totalled 88,000 tonnes, up by 8,000 tonnes or 8.64 per cent from 81,000 tonnes in Q1 ended March 31.
In the first half of the year, India’s imports from the US amounted to 169,000 tonnes, 37.40 per cent more than 123,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
The United States total aluminium scrap exports in June 2021 came in at 157,000 tonnes, down by 7.65 per cent from 170,000 tonnes in May but up by 4.67 per cent from 150,000 tonnes in June 2020.
In Q2, the United States' total aluminium scrap exports stood at 499,000 tonnes, 3.31 per cent more than 483,000 tonnes in Q1 2021. In H1 of the year, the exports totalled 981,000 tonnes, an increase of 14.87 per cent year-on-year from 854,000 tonnes.
