According to the global export-import data, a lion share of bauxite from Guyana goes to Ukraine every year, with steady growth in volume. In 2019, Guyana is expected to export 1.42 million tonnes of bauxite, out of its total estimated export volume of 2 million tonnes. Last year, the country’s bauxite export to Ukraine was at 1.17 million tonnes, indicating a growth of 21 per cent year-on-year in 2019. In 2017, while the export from Guyana to Ukraine had come in at 947,830 tonnes, the export volume in 2018 saw an increase of about 23 per cent.

With the steady expansion in Guyana’s bauxite export volume to Ukraine, the value has also been rising alongside. The global export-import data shows that Guyana is estimated to yield around US$91 million in 2019 from its bauxite export to Ukraine, compared with US$75 million in 2018. This means the value in 2019 is likely to register a growth of about 21 per cent over the year. The export value in 2018 saw an increase of 25 per cent, as Guyana’s bauxite export revenue from Ukraine in 2017 was at US$60 million.

After Ukraine, The United States, USA East Coast, USA Gulf Coast, and the Netherland, are some of the primary importers of bauxite from Guyana. This year to the US, Guyana is expected to export 191,272 tonnes, USA East Coast 93,620 tonnes, USA Gulf Coast 70,755 tonnes, and the Netherland 72, 349 tonnes, shows the available data.
