
Germany’s import of aluminium wires is estimated to grow again in the calendar year 2018 after a plunge in the previous year. According to the global export-import data, the import volume this year is expected to stand at 107,798 tonnes, while that in 2017, it was hovering at 7,12,33 tonnes after dwindling from 101,952 tonnes in 2016.
The above data represents that the calendar year 2018 is expected to see 33 per cent growth from the year 2017 and 5 per cent from 2016.

Along with volume, the import cost in Germany is estimated to grow as well. From US$ 202 million in 2017, the cost is expected to increase to US$258 million for obtaining 33 per cent more wires in 2018. While the cost in 2016 stood at US$240 million.

According to the analysis by global data, the Netherlands will be the top sourcing country of aluminium wires for Germany this year, followed by Spain and France. Around 35,115 tonnes of aluminium wires is estimated to be shipped from the Netherlands, while from Spain and France, the expected amount of import is around 21,195 tonnes and 17,028 tonnes, respectively.
However, in the calendar year 2016 and 2017, the estimated amount of aluminium wires import from the Netherlands was the least among the other two countries. It stood at 1802 tonnes and 2263 tonnes in the respective years. France was the leading estimated exporter with 17408 tonnes and 16992 tonnes in 2016 and 2017, followed by 11609 tonnes and 12475 tonnes in 2016 and 2017 from Spain.
In 2016, the Russian Federation was the top exporter of aluminium wires to Germany, shipping around 18,383 tonnes in total. However, the volume declined to 12, 230 tonnes in 2017 and to 8074 tonnes in 2018.
