Fernson Brewing Company ramps up beer can production with WaveGrip’s G1 applicator

US-based craft brewers Fernson Brewing Company has reportedly installed WaveGrip’s G1 multi-packing applicator, in a bid to ramp up its can production.

The brewery will use the G1 applicator as a sustainable solution to produce its beer cans, ensuring reduced labour costs and materials to pack its cans.

Fernson Brewing CEO Joel Thompson said: “We are often asked why we chose cans for our beers rather than bottles and there are two basic reasons. One is that cans are better at protecting each beer from light and oxygen, and two is because aluminium cans are lighter and easier to recycle than glass.”

He also said that cans are great for the beers and consumers, but their packaging is laborious. Many automated solutions were available but they were too expensive for the level that Fernson Brewing Company needed to run machines at.

But WaveGrip’s G1 applicator can deliver savings in both the labour cost and material cost, with low entry price. Also, the applicator can produce cans with a weight less than 4 grams from a standard six-pack, while its carriers are 100 per cent recyclable and meet current US packaging regulations.

Thompson added: “The WaveGrip G1 was the perfect choice for us, and even running at just 30cpm we are seeing significant benefits, including giving the team more time to spend on what they love, the brewing!”
