The European Commission set the Q3 2026 price of CBAM certificates at EUR 82.32 (USD 92.66), up from EUR 75.28 (USD 84.74) in Q2 and EUR 75.36 (USD 84.83) in Q1, making it the highest quarterly price published so far this year.

The Commission calculates CBAM certificate prices based on the weighted average of auction clearing prices for EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) allowances. The methodology is designed to align the carbon cost applied to EU producers with that applied to imports covered by the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

The Q3 price was published on October 5, 2026, following the end of the quarter.

CBAM certificate prices rise through 2026

The Q3 price represents an increase of 9.3 per cent from the EUR 75.28 (84.74) price applicable to Q2 imports. It was also slightly higher than the EUR 75.36 (USD 84.83) price set for Q1.

For 2026, the European Commission is calculating and publishing four quarterly CBAM certificate prices, with one price applying to emissions embedded in CBAM goods imported into the European Union during each quarter.

The Q4 2026 price will be calculated during the first calendar week following the end of the quarter and is scheduled for publication on January 4, 2027.

CBAM pricing moves to weekly schedule in 2027

The pricing frequency will change from 2027, when the Commission will calculate and publish weekly CBAM certificate prices instead of quarterly prices.

Under Article 20 of Regulation (EU) 2023/956, all CBAM certificates will be purchased on the common central platform from February 2027 onward.

The quarterly pricing system in 2026 therefore provides the initial framework before CBAM certificate prices move to a more frequent schedule next year.
