Civmec Limited has secured new contracts and extensions worth more than AUD 220 million (USD 153 million), including a construction contract for a gallium production plant at Alcoa’s Wagerup Alumina Refinery in Western Australia.

The contracts are expected to be delivered across FY27 and FY28. The awards take Civmec’s order book to about AUD 1.5 billion (USD 1 billion).

Civmec to build gallium plant at Wagerup

Civmec will build the gallium production plant at Alcoa’s Wagerup Alumina Refinery.

The project received a final investment decision in July 2026. Construction started in August following a groundbreaking ceremony.

Civmec will carry out civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation works for the plant. The work also includes the process building, tanks, laboratory and supporting infrastructure.

The company will support Alcoa through commissioning, while the project is expected to support up to 200 local construction jobs.

The gallium project involves government and industry partners from Australia, Japan and the United States.

Civmec CEO Patrick Tallon said the company was proud to be selected for the project.

He said, “The project plays directly to Civmec’s integrated, multidisciplinary capability, and it is a privilege to help establish a new, secure source of gallium right here in Western Australia.”

Civmec wins other maintenance contracts

The company also secured new awards, panel agreement extensions and orders across its maintenance portfolio. It was awarded the Bulk Cargo Terminal works contract at Glencore’s Murrin Murrin Operations. This award adds to its maintenance and sustaining capital work from repeat clients. Further, it continues to take part in early contractor involvement activities across several commodities.

Civmec is an integrated construction and engineering services provider based in Henderson, Western Australia. It serves the energy, resources, infrastructure, and marine and defence sectors.

Regarding the new project, CEO Tallon further said, “We look forward to working safely alongside Alcoa and all stakeholders as the plant takes shape.”
