
The global aluminium downstream industry remained muted this week, except a few important updates. On Monday, November 8, Aluminium Stewardship Initiative announced that it successfully certified Aluflexpack, one of the leading international manufacturers of outstanding flexible packaging, against both the Performance Standard Certification and Chain of Custody Standard Certification. Aluflexpack Novi d.o.o. production plant in Drniš, Croatia, achieved dual Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard Certifications, while its Process Point Service AG site in Einsiedeln, Switzerland, bagged Chain of Custody Certification.

On the same day, the Paris prosecutor's office stated that the French prosecutors are investigating distressed metal magnate Sanjeev Gupta's GFG Alliance, broadening an in-process investigation for a state-backed loan of €18 million to one of its facilities in France. The comprehensive French investigation approaches on top of a probe by Britain's Serious Fraud Office into GFG Alliance as it endeavours to refinance its aluminium and steel businesses following the collapse of primary financial lending firm Greensill Capital.
The National Institute of Engineering (NIE) in Karnataka reportedly signed a Memorandum of Understanding with aluminium extrusion product specialist Bhoruka Extrusions Private Limited (BEPL), aiming at facilitating excellent opportunities to the students of Industrial & Production Engineering (IPE) at NIE to take part in internship, training and project work at Bhoruka extrusions.
Bhoruka extrusions have been serving to the augmented demand and application of aluminium in several sectors stretching from electronics, transportation, textiles, renewable energy, defence, aerospace, etc.

India’s first and only red-carpet ceremony for the country’s discrete manufacturing industry, the Machinist Super Shopfloor Awards honoured the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Jindal Aluminium Limited, Mr Pragun Jindal Khaitan, with ‘The Machinist Next Generation Leader 2021 Award.’ The award acknowledges Pragun Jindal’s persistent contribution through innovation using the best-in-class technology and most acceptable ethical business practices in the downstream segment of the aluminium industry.

As of Thursday, November 11, aluminium billet inventories in China decreased for the fourth straight week by 26,100 tonnes or 18.87 per cent across five major consumption areas, to stand at 112,200 tonnes, found the Shanghai Metals Market. In Foshan, aluminium billet inventories plunged by 14,300 tonnes to settle at 45,000 tonnes on November 11, while inventories in Wuxi decreased by 6,600 tonnes to stand at 22,900 tonnes.
Hindalco Industries Limited increased its aluminium products and aluminium ingot prices on Friday, November 12, following a cut on the previous day. The company’s aluminium billets price came in at INR 241,100 per tonne on November 12, up by INR 8,250 per tonne or 3.54 per cent from the previous day. On Thursday, November 11, the price stood at INR 232,850 per tonne after being reduced by INR 1,500 per tonne.
