According to China customs data, aluminium foil exports into China during August 2021 stood at 115,400 million tonnes, which reflected a month-on-month increase of 19.28 per cent and a year-on-year rise of 14.08 per cent.

Top six importers of China’s aluminium foil include the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, India, Japan, Indonesia, and South Korea, each accounting for over 5 per cent of the total.
Thailand, being the largest importer, accounted for 10.86 per cent of China’s total aluminium foil exports by sourcing 12,500 tonnes in August. To the European Union, China exported 9,000 tonnes of the product in the said month, which accounted for 7.77 per cent of the total exports. India imported only 6,600 tonnes, accounting for 5.7 per cent of China’s exports.
The European Union originally planned to impose import tariffs on aluminium rolled products originating from China with effect from October 2021. But later on, decided to suspend the duties until July after receiving complaints. So, the volume and proportion of aluminium foil exports from China to the EU in the next few months is unlikely to fall sharply, even amid rigid demand.
Prior to the Christmas, customers in Europe start restocking cargoes. Orders this year are expected to come earlier, resulting in aluminium foil exports likely to remain bullish from September to December.
