
According to China Customs data, China imported 526,900 tonnes of alumina in July 2021, which reflected an increase of 91.66 per cent from the previous month and 26.27 per cent from a year ago. From January to July, China’s alumina imports totalled 1.94 million tonnes, however, a decrease of 17.73 per cent from the same period last year.

China Customs data also showed that the country exported 51,400 tonnes of alumina in July 2021, which brought the total exports during January-July to 92,800 tonnes.
Australia was the leading source of China’s alumina imports in July 2021. According to customs data, Australia exported 365,284 tonnes of alumina to China in the said month, accounting for 69.33 per cent of China’s total alumina imports. Vietnam was the second leading alumina exporter to China, supplying 69,448 tonnes in July. Indonesia’s export stood at 32,428 tonnes, accounting for 6.15 per cent of China’s imports.
From India, China imported 30,809 tonnes of ore, and from Kazakhstan, the country imported 19,540 tonnes. India accounted for 5.85 per cent of China’s total imports, while Kazakhstan accounted for 3.71 per cent.
