America's largest aluminum producer, Alcoa, as the usual way fired the starting shot for the U.S. reporting period on Tuesday evening, predicts that the global demand for aluminum will increase by 7 percent in 2013. The forecast is based on an economic recovery in China will drive demand for cans, cars and office buildings.

Alcoa forecast that the demand from the aerospace industry will increase by up to 10 percent thanks to aircraft manufacturers' record order books.

The company also predicted that aluminum consumption could increase by 19 percent within the Chinese industry for heavy trucks and trailers. This while the construction of commercial buildings in the U.S. is increasing for the first time in four years.
