
Canada’s exports of crude metal and alloys to the US fell by 35.54% or 5,900 tonnes month-on-month to 10,700 tonnes in August. Crude metal and alloys exports dropped by 93.92% or 165,300 tonnes from June’s total of 176,000 tonnes and 91.01% or 108,300 tonnes from May’s total of 119,000 tonnes.

{alcircleadd}Canada exported 891,000 tonnes of crude metal and alloys to the US in the first eight months of 2019, according to the latest Mineral Industry Survey report from US Geological Survey.

Canada’s exports of total aluminium (crude metal and alloys, aluminium semi-finished products, scrap) stood at 58,700 tonnes in August, a decrease of 14.18% or 9,700 tonnes month-on-month. Exports reduced by 73.79% from June and 65.27% from May. Aluminium exports amounted to 1.27 million tonnes in the first eight months of this year.
On the import side, Canada imported 8,440 tonnes of crude metal and alloys from the US in August, representing an increase of 13.59% from 7,430 tonnes in July. Imports increased by 6.43% from June and 2.55% from May. For the first eight months of 2019, crude metal and alloys import came in at 66,500 tonnes.
Canada imported 47,900 tonnes of aluminium including scrap from the US in August, from 44,900 tonnes imported in July. That was up 6.68% month-on-month. Aluminium imports rose by10.88% and 8.86% from June and May. In January-August, aluminium imports totalled 358,000 tonnes.
