The 2022 annual general meeting of the Australian Aluminium Council (AAC) voted Capral CEO, Tony Dragicevich to the AAC board, replacing one of two previously empty positions.
This action will give prominence to Capral’s image in the Australian Aluminium Council, the prime authority associated with the Australian aluminium industry. The Council members belong to various active organisations working along the infinite industrial sectors forming the Australian Industry value chain, including bauxite mining, alumina refining, high purity alumina (HPA) production, and aluminium metal alongside manufacturing and distributing semi-fabricated aluminium products.
“It is a great honour to be elected to the Australian Aluminium Council Board of Directors and I look forward to working alongside the other Board members as we take steps to advance the AAC’s charter of representing local business contributing to the production and distribution of aluminium within Australia,” said Tony Dragicevich.
“Capral has been members of the AAC since September 2020, and we view the AACs role in representing industry and raising awareness of industry needs, opportunities and challenges as critical to the ongoing sustainability of our local Industry,” added Mr Dragicevich.
Australia is the world's greatest producer of bauxite and the world's second-largest producer of alumina, both important raw materials in the manufacture of aluminium. Every year, the Australian aluminium sector contributes over $13 billion in exports to the economy, employing over 15,000 people and providing income to another 60,000 households.
The AAC dedicates itself to representing its members along the wider industry chain. The memorandum below states the objectives of the Australian Aluminium Council:
The Council also creates and maintains material specifications, standards, and other technical data for users both inside and outside the industry through its technical group for customers within the industry or outside the industry.
Tony Dragecevich further states, “This will be a great chance to actively support the advancement of the Australian aluminium industry and the many people who contribute to it. The industry is embracing a period of opportunity and change as we transition to a low carbon economy. Australian aluminium is important in both international and domestic markets and the Australian Aluminium Council has a critical role to play in assisting local industry to remain current and competitive in the global arena.”
AAC Board members often come from organisations that represent upstream industries such as mining, refining, and smelting. Tony's nomination as CEO of Capral Aluminium, Australia's biggest extruder and supplier of aluminium products, serves to widen the board's experience by including representation from the downstream business.
