The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative has certified Magna PT S.p.A. against the Performance Standard Certification with a focus on Material Stewardship for the production of automotive transmissions at the Modugno plant, Italy.

The activities at the plant are the production of automotive transmissions in manual, automatic and hybrid variations. It is the third subsidiary of the Magna Group to achieve ASI certification. The other subsidiaries that bagged the ASI certification earlier were Magna PT B.V. & Co. KG and Magna BDW Technologies GmbH in Germany.
ASI Performance Standard certification focussing on ‘material stewardship’ address product design, life cycle assessments, management of process scrap and collection and recycling products at end-of-life.
As per the report, Magna PT S.p.A. has also expanded its Performance Standard certification scope to include Rosenberg plant in Germany, which produces gearbox, drive systems and components.
Peter Tillmann, Director Central QEHS at Magna PT B.V. & Co. KG, said: “As we continue to move forward in our efforts to protect and preserve the planet, we see the certification according to ASI as one of our milestones in our sustainability strategy toward responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of critical raw materials throughout the supply chain. The certifications of the plants in Modugno and Rosenberg have brought us one step closer to this goal.”
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “We warmly congratulate Magna PT S.p.A on achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification at its Modugno plant. Material stewardship activities that increase the efficient use of metal and maximise the amount brought back as feedstocks for new products are essential to support the circular economy. We’re pleased to see Magna Group continue to extend its powertrain division’s ASI Certifications, demonstrating the company’s commitment to maximising aluminium’s circularity properties in its operations.”
