Apaq and Lelon taking advantage of opportunities in capacitor market
Japan-based Nippon Chemi-Con and Nichicon had dominated the global supply of solid capacitors used in motherboards until Taiwan-based Apaq, Lelon and Taiwan Chinsan Electronic Industrial stepped into the product line following expiry of conductive polymer patents held by Germany-based Bayer AG, the sources pointed out.
Apaq currently has a monthly production of 70-100 million solid capacitors. Specifically for use in small-sized terminal devices including smartphones, tablet and Ultrabook PCs, Apaq has developed 4.5x 3.2mm (4532-type) chip solid capacitors and has begun shipments in small volumes. The company plans to expand production of chip solid capacitors if market demand grows.
Lelon's solid capacitors are mainly used in notebook PCs, power suppliers and communication equipment, with small shipment volumes but high profitability. Lelon currently utilizes 70% of its overall production capacity.
